Haddington - This historic market town - the County town of East Lothian - which lies 5 miles to the South of Aberlady has many places worthy of a visit. St. Mary's Church, Jane Carlyle's House, 18th century Poldrate Mill and many others all within walking distance of the Town Centre. A Royal Burgh since the 12th Century, Aberlady was for many years its port, until the arrival of the railway made sending goods by ship and road less attractive. Whatever your interest, history, sport, or just browsing the many shops, Haddington and its surroundings has something for you.

Gullane - Take a short drive East along the coast road and you come to the village of Gullane which is famous for its sand. I of course mean the golf courses at each end of the village, and the golden sands of the very popular beach. Of the golf courses the best known is Muirfield which is a regular venue for the British Open Championship.

There is a selection of shops, including a chemist and bank on the main road through the village.

Dirleton - Two miles East of Gullane is the village of Dirleton with the imposing Castle overlooking the village green. There is a general store in the middle of the village, also two hotels. It has one of the most picturesque bowling greens - in the grounds of the castle. At the east end of Dirleton there is road access to Yellowcraig beach.

Longniddry - This village, just over 2 miles to the West of Aberlady has a small number of shops ( including a chemist ), garages and a bank. It also has a railway station, with a regular service to Edinburgh. To the North is a beach with ample parking.

North Berwick - Travel a little over 7 miles East of Aberlady, through Gullane and past Dirleton Castle and you arrive at the seaside 'resort' of North Berwick.

This ancient Royal Burgh has much to offer visitors, two long beaches - one with a boating pond, impressive harbour where trips can be taken around the Bass Rock and other islands and of course the Scottish Seabird Centre.

For the sporty types there is two golf courses, tennis courts, bowling green and at the top of Law Road the local sports centre and swimming pool.

For those who like something less physically active there is a variety of shops to browse or you may prefer to walk in the Lodge Grounds. Or to have a meal in one of the many local pubs, hotels or restaurants

North Berwick also has a Library, Banks, Chemists, Tourist Information Centre and a Railway Station with a direct service to Edinburgh. All of this in the shadow of the imposing North Berwick Law.

Drem - This small village has a railway station and is close to the Sunday Market which is held on part of the former East Fortune Airfield. Just a few hundred yards South of the market entrance is the Museum of Flight, where Concorde will be on display from Spring 2005.
